    Opamp alternatives

I've used NJR products recently and while it's not normally available locally, I was able to get it locally. TRX Electronics imported it for me. And it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Give them a try: www.trxe.com (based in Moreleta Park) Tip: It helps to give a Mouser or DigiKey part number...

That would be great, thanks. Sorry for only replying now. I wasn't logged in and didn't receive the notification.

Changing continuous 12V trigger to pulsed on/off trigger for Power Amp circuit

You are probably getting false signals. A microcontroller should solve this phenomenon, but it needn't be one as big as an Arduino. I suggest developing the sketch on the Arduino, then port it to a smaller one like an ATTiny85.

    kicad Faston footprint?

Have you tried looking for the Molex equivalent? If a part is not in Kicad, I normally go to componentsearchengine.com and enter the manufacturer's part no. There one can usually download the model and install in Kicad.

Switched mode power supplies vs Buck converters

Both of my Nelson Pass designed amps run off smps and I'm happy.

    Wolverine Slow Build

Aramex courier or Aramex Global Shopper? There is a difference. I always use the latter and if there is a delay, it's usually in SA at the customs office.

    300B Stereo SET

My original comment just proves that one can't please everyone all the time. Please don't let it discourage you @emildev. It's an amazingly well executed project.

    300B Stereo SET

I hope the ugly black laser-cut tongue and groove lines are going to be covered with veneer or paint. The woodwork doesn't match the exquisite electronics. Just my opinion.

    300B Stereo SET

Love it. What about the circuit? Is there something like a "standard" 300B circuit or is this your own version? Air's 300B that I heard in Rosebank is still haunting me!

Switched mode power supplies vs Buck converters

Chris, a simple CLC filter may be all you need with a step-down Buck converter. I can provide a simple schematic that I've built and used successfully in a preamp. The CRCLCRC filter by XRK471 works well with headphone amps where you would hear any noise emanating from a smps. See post #68 You...

Where to buy good quality resistors in SA

Of course they charge a premium. I wouldn't expect them to do it for free. Having used TRX for about 3 years, I found their prices to be very reasonable, considering that they import everything exactly as I request - and they go out of their way to source those hard to find items. Prices are...

Political comments from Picture of the Day.

What an eye opener this thread has turned out to be. I've lost my respect for some members and gained respect for others, based solely on how they conducted themselves. Way to go guys!

Where to buy good quality resistors in SA

You don't have to get stuff shipped to you from abroad if you want DigiKey and Mouser stock. There is a company in Pretoria called TRX Electronics who will do it for you at much cheaper rates. I get 95% of my electronic components via them. The normal procedure is to ask them for a quote, giving...

A guide to sexy DIY headphone cables

Sure, and you're free to ask if he's willing to make some available. But since there hasn't been a reply, I think you have your answer. Either that, or he doesn't check in here often. The other point I tried to make was that since he's shown exactly how it's done and what supplies to use, most...

A guide to sexy DIY headphone cables

My takeaway from this excellent thread is that the OP wanted to show us how we can make our own cables. And how to do it neatly. I doubt that he was advertising a cable making service. Why don't you try making your own? All the information you'll need is here and I can testify that Max's prices...
