I did a search for Willi Bauer tonearms and they look really great but expensive. Since I posted this thread, Frank has very kindly agreed to repair the arm for me. It's currently on it's way to Germany from the UK, so I'm just praying it gets there.

I think Schalk thinks I've got the old Whisper module cases, but I've got the new ones with cut out in the top allowing easier removal of valves. I think the cut out would allow me to use taller valves. Not sure though.

Thanks Schalk, no I didn't want to bother you as I know you're busy, plus I've caused you some hassle in the past asking about the module casing etc. I've got the casing which allow you to change the valves so that's why I was enquiring about the 6n6p.

Hi sorry for the daft question but there's a switch on the back of the Whisper, which if I remember correctly is Earth Chassis on or off. Can someone tell me what the difference is between on and off? Is it dangerous in any way to choose on or off? many thanks for any advice

Sorry one last question. do i need to buy a matched quad of valves for the whisper? can I mix different valves in the mc stage. one type at the front or the back and another type in the other socket? I'm not sure what the front valves do and what the back ones do.

Just an update - my Whisper is back up and running. It seems to sound better than ever. The repairman said some of the valves were off and he's got 4 matched valves out of the 8 in total and used them in the MC side.
