Your amp will clip when the drive requirements of either the driver stage of the amp or the output stage is exceeded. How you get there is six of the one and half a dozen of the other. So when you hook up your preamp to the Decware, the gain of the preamp comes into play. Likely your volume...

When you crank the volume to full you effectively "short" or the input before the volume put to the output of the volume pot. IOW you eliminate the volume pot.

Are you using red cap screws for HV and black for ground?

A good low powered valve amp needs to go with high efficiency speakers which are also an easy load to drive. The result incomparable.

The cut off in the first 300b test appears a little more remote than the 2nd 300b. 2nd one looks more linear.
