It looks like these DAB+ trials have been going on for more than ten years with two high power transmitting stations (10 kW transmitter power) 100 kW ERP situated in Johannesburg and Pretoria. I guess the PTA transmitter is currently not transmitting. I wonder if it will ever get off the ground...

One of the stations is an info station and it says that these stations are all part of a DAB+ trial. Looking on the web it looks like these trials have been taking place in the Pretoria/Jhb area since 2017, I think. Not sure in what other areas DAB+ is available. Well, I found it by accident...

I didn't know DAB radio was up and running in SA. Accidentally pushed the DAB button on my JBL Tuner portable radio this morning during load-shedding and whole lot of radio stations popped up. I listened a bit to LM Radio and also Fine Music a classical radio station based in Cape Town. Pretty cool.

A friend of my father's left a stack of records when he immigrated. I grabbed a few to listen too. This one had an interesting cover. It is not quite jazz but sort of world music with mostly percussive instruments. Not my cup of tea, but interesting.
