I've seen a couple of people advocate for a power amplifier in this, and other, threads. As someone who has never owned one: does a power amplifier's output differ substantiantally from that of your standard AVR's? I.e. would a 5 channel 150W power amp sound different to a 5 channel 150W AVR?

I've noticed with streaming from my PC to my TV via Valve's Steam Link that the image quality does go down when my wifi dips a bit, so it might well do the same with Nvidia Shield, those two technologies being very similar. My Plex server doesn't have the brain power for that kind of thing...
