    Heatpumps

The answer to this will be unique, dependent on your cost per KW, water usage, etc. For me using a HP, at the current cost of electricity from Eskom and current average usage my payback period is 3.5years. This will shorten as electricity prices increase. The additional benefit of reduced load...

    Heatpumps

As Dan mentioned, in Winter with very low ambient temperatures of 4°C, the HP runs for 2hrs-2.5hrs. In hot 35°C summer days it takes just over 1hr. I run mine to 65°C. I can increase that to 75°C but I have not tested it. I am happy to if someone would like to know?

    Heatpumps

I have this unit installed: https://itssolar.co.za/product/4-5kw-super-its-residential-heat-pump/ Claimed input power is 1kW, in reality it draws around 1.1-1.3kW while running. I used to run my 200L geyser using it's 4kW element twice a day and it consumed around 9-12kW per day. I now run the...

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

Can you recommend a model pre-amplifier from this company? Where in SA could I get my hands on their products to listen to them?

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

Perhaps I should create a new thread called, "Pre-amplifiers with a budget of R50-100k?" :p I am happy to continue using the Lumin as a streamer, so my focus currently is purely Pre-amplification, with an open mind to it also having an improved DAC.

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

This is exactly where I am at currently. I am on the search for something at a lower price-point to see if I can match the experience the Boulder provides. Any and all recommendations on what I should try will be appreciated?

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

Long overdue UPDATE, because so many people asked that I do provide feedback, and also because... ...I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread so far. I have read and re-read almost every post at different stages of my journey and so many comments now make so much more sense...

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

And then just to clarify I will also be looking for a stereo specific amp, dac, etc for those who were wondering if I’m only looking for speakers and keeping my HT stuff. I spent some time over December with speaker placement and will be looking into room acoustics as well. Not in a rush, but...

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

I'm surprised you have not heard of them. They don't like small rooms so are preferred for outdoor setups and require big power to drive them as they are terribly inefficient, heavy and bulky. Not for the audiophile but definitely something you want to experience in your lifetime. 😜

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

Morning Hendrik, I did! After following all the advice on this thread and shopping around I ended up buying a Toyota Land Cruiser 76  In terms of audio, not the smartest decision I have made in my life, however I have taken a big step toward an improved quality of life as I am planning on...

    Generator explosion.

A guy that works with me had his generator explode last year while trying to restart it after the motor died. He was not refueling or doing anything silly, I suspect a leaking fuel line or perhaps not full truthful disclose as to the events leading up to the explosion. His garage and part of the...

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

I think we can all agree room treatment will provide a noticeable improvement to the perceived quality of sound from our systems. Let's end that dance. The dance I would love to watch is the below, because I'm trying to weigh the perceived improvement in sound quality of a separate DAC like the...

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

Right, so I am following your guys advice and decided to improve my source. Since I enjoy apps like Tidal, Spotify, Deezer and YT Music it makes more sense now to begin with a streamer and good quality DAC. DAC: @Drifters' advice on the Denafrips Ares 2 I have learnt now was a very good...

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

Sheesh guys, I really value the input each one of you have contributed here. I feel like a first grader at my first lesson on sound quality :D I arrived here looking at speaker options and now I question my entire setup. I am grateful for this, but now I have more questions... 1. If we ignore...

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

I'm using a Denon X3700h receiver with Rotel RMB-1585 amp. I have a Velodyne DB12 subwoofer. Room is 43m² (7m x 6m) with relatively high ceilings. Room is untreated but open to suggestions. Thick carpet, full length curtain covering 5m of the 7m wall(left side of room), has a large bay-window...

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

I am in the market to upgrade my B&W 603's, not the S2 version I still have the original 603's. Since I have B&W I recently auditioned the newly released B&W 702-S3's and was very impressed by them. The separated tweeter provides a noticeable improvement to the highs, midrange is more detailed...

Receivers available power for Surround Speakers Only

So now we get to where my original concern lay. I agree with your suggestion and may end up doing this BUT... The 702 S3 *changes wording* ...can handle up to 300W :) ...if I only use 2 channels of the Rotel I'm only making 200W available. So they won't have enough power to perform at their...
