Like anything else , one needs some fiddling and foreplay to get a system up to snuff..

Sat morning , I went to marcus , my pal  with G3's and a Devialet 120

I did comprehensive measurements of his room and only using 3 parametric filters .. solved 95% of the bass issues .. HUGE improvement.

Then afterwards went to Serge's place  .. G2's and a 200 devialet .. massively boomy bass on jazz recordings  .. used 3 filters as well and get the bass to tight , articulate , no boom etc.. also a HUGE improvement.

Marcus is using a miniDSP box ..the openDRC di -  , running only the parametric - but it can do Acourate or other FIr based  full freq correction  as well .. he had +10db peaks at 50hz , and at 140 hz , so applied a big cut there .. had a major 80z suckout - not narrow , but quite wide , so I applied a +4 db boost there .. not technically accurate , as you cant totally fill dips , but it was VERY effective in restoring "body" and the slam 80hz provides

And Serge was simple ..J River parametric. (free) I applied a low Q -5db cut at both 100 and 140hz where the boom was and did a steepish +2db lift at 45 hz running one octave each side of it  - for a bit of welly...

The improvements were not trivial or subtle and were ONLY used under 200hz .. so any phase issues etc are moot as its minimum phase correction
Both gents were astounded ..... simple  fixes ...

They took the plunge and went DSP and upped their game .. now up yours!!!
