Here are some of my favourite jazz releases from 2021:

Normally, Norah Jones is too mainstream for my taste, but her new album 'til we meet again, is actually very nice:

Nick B?rtsch, jazz-funk master with his Ronin band, dared to record a solo album Entendre with some of Ronins music:

I was very happy to see that Vijay Iyer released another trio album. The Indian pianist living in New York is n extremely smart guy with many interests besides music. His style is similar to Brad Mehldau but less sugar-coated. Good for us that he found time for another trio recording, Uneasy:

Unfortunately very short is the Erlend Apneseth Trios release Lokk, a beautiful fusion of traditional Norwegian folk and modern electric jazz:

Martin Tingvall is a Swedish piano player living in Hamburg, has delivered another solid piano solo album, When Light Returns. Nothing spectacular or new but his trio and solo albums always get plenty of listening time here:

Friends of piano jazz like me will love the Planet album by Isfar Sarabski:

Also the Marcin Wasilewski Trio released a new piano jazz CD En attendant. Very laid back and smooth, with a version of Riders on the Storm can be played in an endless loop:

The Bill Charlap Trio brings Broadway or Greenwich Village vibes into the house. The new Street Of Dreams doesn't disappoint and contains refined, technically perfect, smooth piano jazz:

I have some more but these are the ones that got played often. I will do a list of some vocalists and rock re-releases later.

Happy to see your list and to get some feedback on my choices!

Music is the best!
Eckhard
