My AVR has an RCA socket on the back marked digital input. My BD player has a RCA socket marked digital out.
Now, from what I read, a proper digital Coax cable has 75 ohm impedance and crucially, in not terminated with RCA plugs. Such plugs apparently destroy the 75 ohm impedance requirement and the cable is out of spec for digital transmission.
So how come manufacturers deploy the RCA sockets on their equipment? While one reads about the need to use a 'proper' digital coax cable for connection, using a standard interconnect seems to do the necessary job. So is there any benefit in spending extra on a 'digital' cable compared to using a standard interconnecting cable?
