Resurrecting this thread as it is a topic that has bearing on some other recent threads. It seems that with high-end equipment it is preferred to isolate the system from the room as best as one could.. kind of lay it all bare.. I am not in that league, which is why I opted to rather post in this thread. I have again realised just how a room could make, or break, music playback. I have been moving quite a lot in the recent two years, from an average listening environment to something really nice but a bit too "warm", to something rather awful with huge open, double-volume space, and back into a cosy 4 x 3 m section of the living area of a 2 bedroom apartment.. Biggish rug covers most of the floor surface in listening area, in fact floorstanding speakers are placed on top of the rug around 40cm from the wall, curtains hang on one side, sofa is acting as the "other side" room divider, listening chair(s) a subwoofer width away from the rear wall (iow similar distance away than the speakers are from the other wall). And this just works splendidly with sub integrating wonderfully below 60 Hz from the corner behind one of the chairs. I was very, very keen to buy other speakers before moving here, I had my eyes on a pair or two in classifieds. Now I am like.. meh.. not really looking at the offers. Room accoustics can really add huge sound value (with placement).
