On the 19th of July I sold my B&W's, although the new owner insisted I keep and play them (thanks) until suitability replacements were found, this is against my grain. The dealerships I ran we had a standing rule if an OTP was signed on a vehicle, it was grounded! In my case same applies for hifi, if someone committs I disconnect. Sorry rambling on here, point is I disconnected on the 19th of July.
On the 20th of July I committed too a pair of SoundLabs ESL's, now I have never heard a pair of electrostatic speakers play. I was strongly advised by the "seller" (mentioning names is not what this post is about) not to buy without auditioning! We are a 1100km apart, can't do. Anyways it takes me from the 20th a further 10 days to pay for the panels in full.
It was further agreed that I would pay for all the materials to build the crate R1570 and the "seller" would not charge labour (thank you). The crate was finally built (work of art!) And panels loaded ready for collection, which I had Time Freight duly do on the 11 of August. The said crate is delivered to my door (home) on the 12th R603.
(12th August) Being an absolute newbie to ESL's the "seller" documents fool proof step by step the entire ritual too setting these bad boyz up (even vacuuming).
I follow verbatim... It's getting late now so I eventually get sound out and go to bed...
(13th) The following night 1 panel is dead! No sound, sms's and phone calls later on to find my 4 year old saw me adjusting bias and turn the one all the way off! Again it's now late off to bed...
(14th) Having 4th baby tomorrow, no time to play with speakers, besides by the time I'm finished everything it's late off to bed...
(15th August) Have baby boy 3.4kg
Get home (Friday night) switch the system on go and run bath water for kids. In between I set up the bias. Finished bathing kids, notice an electrical smell coming from the lounge, RUN, Smoke and Smell coming from 1 panel other panel playing...
