not sure if this has been discussed before...........?

I recently tried the parasound pre 2100 in my HT setup and the sound was a MASSIVE improvement from listening to music via my receiver. so last week I picked up a Cambridge Audio 840E, now I wait for the two channel power amp to arrive before I connect up.

not sure if I connected it correctly previously with the parasound, I had a pair of RCA run from my Marantz blu ray player direct to the pre 2100, L and R pre outs from Denon receiver to by-pass on Pre 2100 and then from Pre 2100 to Sherwood power amp then L and R speakers to power amp.
I have since sold some stuff so starting over.
I would like to use the same pair of front speakers for HT and Music
the Marantz blu ray player to double up as CD player also (HDMI cable to Denon and RCA to Preamp)

now I have read some varying opinions on how to connect this kind of setup..........
some say  :pleasant:
when listening to music with this setup, the receiver volume should be on zero?
do I still need the receiver on when listening to music?
do I still need the preamp on when watching a movie? pass through on standby?

please advise

thanks
ray
