The recent thread that Audiomuze started on addressing his room has finally got me to start addressing the issues I've had in my own room. That short thread has a wealth of info and I'm very appreciative of some of the guys that took the time to post there

It's actually a very interesting topic and I don't know why I've been putting it off for so long. Going through this process is a specialised field on its own and there's a hell of a lot for me to learn. It's also quite sobering to see how bad typical rooms really are and I can tell you I wasn't prepared for what I found.

I set up the Mic in the listening position vertically, but angled it slightly forward by 15deg to help a bit with the mic's less than perfect off axis response.

First up, a smoothed response of the whole frequency band. The tilt drooping towards the top end is from the mic's off axis response.

Wow, there's a serious problem around 43Hz. Here's the unsmoothed response below 400Hz

There's a few serious issues here, with some deep nulls

And finally, a waterfall plot

Eish. This is going to take more than just moving a few couches around :D. I'll be shamelessly copying Ian's Bass Trap designs, but before I do that I'll be putting bales of Roof insulation around the room and 'test' various locations to see what effect I get where. More to follow!
