Good day all,
I have an ADC550XE mounted on a Technics SL-Q2. The TT is in very good condition, but I suspect the stylus is due for replacement. It has unknown hours on it.
From what I could find on the www, the ADC550XE is not too shabby.
I have an original ADC red/orange dot stylus, but I suspect it might not be the correct one. The colour is brown, where all the web pics shows an light yellow / beige colour as the original.
If I look at the cantilever angle, mine is a lot flatter than the pics on the www. (Worn lever suspension?) I also suspect that the tip is past its prime. The cantilever is also very slightly offset to the left hand side, when looking at the cartridge from the front as mounted. It does not look bent. The rubber suspension again?
The reason for my suspicions is that it is currently being bested by an AT95e cartridge. Different headshell, but same arm etc.
Setup / alignment has been checked properly.
According to the www this cartridge should hold its own in a higher class than the AT.
What are your thoughts / experiences with the ADC?
Where to find a replacement stylus is SA? Original ADC if possible.
My first thought was to just replace it with another cart, but since I suspect I have not heard it's full potential, I thought I would ask here first.
If not worth the hassle, what should I get as a replacement? The AT95e is on loan, but again according to the www, the SL-Q2 deserves a better cartridge. Mine has the modeling clay mod.
Attached is the best pictures I could take with my cell.
Any advice etc will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Gideon
