Good Evening Fellow Members!

I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this, if not please excuse me!

My Cambridge Audio Sonata Amplifier, stoped working, it comes on and the screen light is on but nothing happens thereafter.

I wanted to find out what the problem is so I contacted Volco, who are the agents.

I was advised that I should go trough a retailer and so I was referred to Greg, form HI FI Installations, just so happens that I bought the unit and some speakers from his shop as a used product earlier on on the year.

He was very kind and even collected the amp from me when he was in my area. He said he will do a report once he hears from Volco.

This morning Greg called me and said the Amp has been fixed and the bill R1200, as the power supply was replaced.
I felt like I should of been advised of the cost before hand, as the amount is almost half of what I paid for the Amplifier.
He said that normally if its an amount under R1500, Volco normaly goes ahead and repairs, I then called Volco and explained that I was not happy with this practice and they said that it is the only way to find what the problem is and repair it and that is why they re coiled the power supply. But on the invoice sent to HI FI Installations it states power supply replaced.

So am I being a difficult client or Is that not a little bit of unfair repair procedure.

Also would the members here agree that there is a difference between re coiling and replacing a power supply, and lastly is R1200 a fair amount and should one be asked if he wants to go ahead before the repair is done?

I would appreciate the members input as I am not happy ,but I will pay because the work has been done already.

Regards Martin.
