A friend's been experiencing issues with his PC. The screen stays black with "NO SIGNAL" message appearing shortly after booting up.
The cpu fan spins up, HDD light works normally, all LED's on motherboard stay lit so no problem there.
Since I have an IT background and a decent amount of experience under my belt I offered to give it a look. This is what I've tried so far:

Resetted the Bios (Cmos reset)

Tried different display connections:
Display connection via Onboard Graphics (DVI slot)
Display connection via onboard D-sub connector
Add-on Graphics Card (Pci Slot)
Different Add-on Graphics Card (Pci-e Slot)  Tried different cards, all with same result "No Signal"

Tried my own DDR3 DIMMS in this board and still no joy.  (Tried this one DIMM at a time in each of 4 available slots to see if any ram slots were the culprit.)

For absolute certainty I even tested this board with my own power supply but to no avail.

Re-Seated the CPU and applied new thermal paste.

Of course, I'm inclined to believe either the motherboard is faulty or the CPU.
(Although no burn smells or visible signs of surge are present.

Since I've never owned an AMD at any time of my life I don't have any spare AMD CPU's or motherboards to test it with.
I'd imagine the troubleshooting is the same for both intel and AMD machines,
but of course I could also have missed something important.

Any suggestions??

Motherboard is ECS A890GXM-A (v.1)
CPU is AMD Phenom II X4 965 (HDZ965FBK4DGM)
