The Rotel RB993 I sold a short while ago seems to have problem with it. I din't pick anything up with it, and the previous owner is a forum member. The problem is described below. I'm hoping to get guidance on the forum as to how to proceed. It's with the new owner in Pietermaritzburg. The problem as he describes it:
"for past two weeks it has been working perfectly however today I found the center and right channels to be troublesome, all three speakers are identical by the way.
For the first 10 - 15 mins of it being on I am getting no output whatsoever from both the center and right channels, after this period when I do get sound it is soft as well as crackly compared to the left channel which is clear and louder this occurs for around another 10 minutes after this the crackling stops but they are still softer compared to the left channel.
Also I did notice in the first few days of using it there is a slight buzz from all channels when my ear was close to the tweeters but I thought this was normal even though my speakers aren?t very sensitive, 87dB. The buzz seems to be louder in all channels when I checked today but still not intrusive at normal listening levels, I really hope I?m just imagining this.
I have checked my RCA cables to see that they aren?t at fault and they aren?t and all speaker cable is secure. The system is only used by myself in a room only I use so I am certain nothing has been meddled with, in terms of volume I can?t say I have been using it at very loud levels I?ve had my AVR around -18dB at most and on average around -25dB. There haven't been any warning signs, in terms of heat it?s been running warm at worst and there weren?t any bangs or pops.
As I am utterly clueless when it comes to the technical side of amps do you have any idea what could be wrong? I seem to hear the phrase ?been recapped? being thrown around when it comes to amp servicing, do these symptoms sound like it may have to do with the capacitors also I forgot to ask but has the amp ever been serviced?
What should I do, I would prefer to not use HFX as I am sure they will charge an arm and a leg for any work so are there any reputable people you know of in KZN who service amps? Alternatively out of KZN Dewald (Ghost In The Machine), Ampdog and Rudi (Geco) from the forum come to mind, is there anyone else? "
And today:
Since then the problem seems to be intermitent with the right channel while the center has output before the right even if it isn't clear and as loud as the left.
