Dear AV Forums Members,

I currently have an old Rotel processor, and am looking at upgrading it for one of the Rotel 15 series processor or receivers. I am considering the following options:

1) Rotel RSP1570 with my RB1090 2 ch amp and RMB1095 5 ch amp which should make an excellent match...
2) Rotel RSX1550, but use my RB1090 2 ch amp and RMB1095 5 ch amp for the home theatre and use the internal amps for the multi room outputs (nothing serious, only dining room, braai area, etc.).

As both cost the same, I tend to lean towards the 'features' of the RSX as I will be able to run the multiroom scenario without any additional costs nor additional stacking space requirements...

My question and ultimate point for consideration will be: Is the processor quality in the RSX as good as the RSP? Will the sound quality with the RSX (using external amps) be any worse than the RSP? From the pure specs it is difficult to see, because as usual Rotel do not provide much information on their web page. It is even difficult to find out if they use the same processing chips...

In the older days, the processors (such as the RSP1098) had a clear advantage over the smaller processors and over the receivers. Now I understand that both RSX and RSP have the same processing stages, according to the local HiFi dealer. I am yet to listen to the two ...

I am not necessarily the music fanatic that will listen for hours to find the smallest sound difference as some of the most serious audiophiles. Although I enjoy the sound of my current setup, I would not like to downgrade... If the difference in sound quality of the new RSX is insignificant but better than my current setup, then I will rather go with the RSX.

Any idea where the new RSX and RSP is placed w.r.t. sound quality compared to the previous Rotel processors?

Please give me your thoughts...

Regards
Stephen
