http://gizmodo.com/5994765/seiki-50+inch-4k-tv-eyes+on-how-the-hell-is-a-tv-this-beautiful-so-cheap
this is in line with my philosophy of the fact that i dont need all the "smart" crap that the TV companies want to foist upon me - i have a million sources that can give me all that gumpf if i ever do need it ....... all i want from a so-called TV is the fact that it can act as a screen for a decent resolution of video playback with sufficient adjustability to look good and be big enough for my needs
all the media playback functionality can be handled by my various source units and who the heck needs internet functionality and things like youtube and facebook etc from your TV when your phone, tablet, blu-ray player, PC, Laptop etc, etc, etc already give you all that and more
so even if this thing is not 100% according to 4k spec yet its still a step in the right direction according to me ie a cheaper high res TV that will not cost an arm and a leg to buy and its taking proper 4k closer to cheap mainstream IMHO ..... well done Seiki for making a mockery of the big guys who are only out there to profit from early adopters ...... i mean R400k for a samsung 85 inch 4k TV ..... give me a break ....... i can get a pretty decent flat or a luxury full house car for that amount and i would be utterly insane to spend that on a TV unless i was stupidly rich (and i do mean "stupidly" rich) when regular TV's are around the R10k to R15k mark
