Went through customs (driving) into Mozambique today and due to fact thatI had a box on my front seat (computer/server) which looked new. I was stoped getting into my car at the Mozambique side filling in all the forms.
The guy asked me (customs officer) what is that and I explained to him (aobout R2K real value) he took his calculator and did a quick R2K x 40% and said I need to pay R800 as this is normal procedure to make sure I bring it back... I will get the money back as I leave Mozambique again.
I said, fine... although I filled in the reimportation documents... he said to me he will be able to 'help' me. I asked him what 'help' means and if I gie him mone I need a receipt and I need to speak to his boss to understand the process and forms that need to be completed in order to reclaim my money....
His response was that 'You are difficult' and allowed me to leave without paying anything. As I left the customs I was stopped by another customs officer who tried the same thing with me. I also left, after asking him to escort me to the offce to do the official forms and allll receipts and the process involved.
This is just sh*t and many other people will definitly pay the 'dues'. Welcome to Africa.
