I am looking to conduct a short experiment over the next few days.
I Speedtest my connection regularly and have noticed a SEVERE drop in speed over the last two to three months.
I am based in Cape Town and on a 8Mb Business ADSL from Afrihost. This is a uncapped, unshaped account.
I logged a call with them a few days ago and not getting anywhere - they say I should speak with Telkom.
My Telkom line has a pretty good SNR and Attenuation as checked by Afrihost.
The Telkom physical line is sync at 7Mb. Back in June I was getting between 5-7Mbps regularly to the MTN/SAIX servers in CPT and JHB.
For the last two months I have barely been able to get above 4. I normally run two tests in the morning (CPT+JHB) and again in the earlier evening (6-8pm).
I have a Cisco 880 router with Netflow switched on and able to get real-time usage and there is nothing strange going on.
Can I kindly ask that any Afrihost users run tests to the SAIX and/or MTN servers in JHB and CPT over the next few days and report back the following
Region - JHB/CPT (Where you based)
CPT SAIX - Speed
CPT MTN - Speed
Rosebank SAIX -
JHB MTN -
Might also be interesting if any other users want to test their ISP. I am mainly interested in responses during the hours of 7am-7pm.
