Poor Akai, it had witnessed better days. For 4 years it was tortured by garage dust, scratches, burn marks and even engine oil. Some of the veneer is already chipping  off and somehow the stylus broke off and is missing.

It took Mentholated Spirits, Brasso Metal Polish and Cutex Remover to rid of all the grime, and still it looks dull and discolored. The final touch is a new Audio Technica AT93 Cartridge. To test it, I took a old vinyl from my father's collection: Sounds Electronic - 33 great hits for 1966, the first track sounded wonderful and after it stopped I wanted to listen a bit more. It's true, digital music does sound better in some cases. But, digital music makes me tired. Vinyl doesn't, there's simply something different. Way different!

Apart from the cosmetic damage, only the auto-return doesn't work and the lever that lowers the tone arm is a bit lazy. Sometimes it lowers enough so that the stylus touch the LP, sometimes it don't. So I assume it must've picked up lots of dust and sand. One hinge for the cover is missing and the other one is broken, the spring teared right through the plastic. But I don't worry about that.
