Hi all - was wondering if someone can help with a snag I have run into.

A headphone DAC/amp I recently got was totally silent from the moment I started using it. But from a couple nights ago, when I switched it on, it emits a hum. It is coming from the actual unit / chassis itself (does not come through headphones). I am concerned about damage or that something has gone wrong.

From research, the nearest thing I came across was DC offset. The strange part is that it was 100% before and suddenly started to hum. No change was made to the system, cables, plugs, etc.

I tried a different cable and different plug point in the house but it did not help. I tried cycling through different inputs, modes, and gain settings but the hum persists. I took off the cover and can confirm it is coming from the transformer. I managed to capture a short video here.

If it is DC offset, could it possibly have just started now? Does it point to a component failing or being damaged? And either way is there is long term risk of damage?

Also, is there any way to eliminate DC offset if that is indeed the cause?

Cheers
X
