I call upon you to help me understand how a solid-state amplification circuit works.

How do you get a transistor to conduct and eventually amplify a signal?
What is the basic components needed and what are their jobs? (Resistors & caps?)

You can explain using a "Class A" circuit as example.

I have a whole bunch of 2N3055 transistors that I want to do something with in class A mode. How should I go about? I want to build a very simple circuit that actually works.

How do you bring a transistor into "zero balance"? Etc... ???

:p
