My very first amplifier I bought with my very first paycheck more than 25 years ago was a Techniques SUV 460 which for the most part is in exactly the same condition as the day I un-boxed it. I do realize that this is by no means a special amplifier but it served me well for yonks so we have a special bond.
Just before it retired to the shadows of a cupboard some years ago it started cutting out on one channel when it was switched on for the first time, this was easily solved by simply cranking it up for a second. Now after wanting to putt it to use again that suspect channel is completely dead. I have cleaned the attenuator and the balance control and measured both with a fluke and they both test fine so I am now stumped with the limited test gear I have at my disposal.
Is there a particular problem which I can test for? Failing which is there somebody in the Pretoria area who is willing to look at the amp for me. I have in the meantime disassembled it to get to everything, and if it's not fixed soon it's going to the bin, which I don't really want to do since my kids may get to enjoy it the way I did. I am hoping it's not BER.
