And after the weather we will go to the electricity report...
Dear oh dear... SABC and the local media doing their bit to make us aware of the strain on the national electricity supply grid... irritates the cr*p out of me. Was watching news a moment ago and after the weather on came the electricity report telling us how much power was used during the day. What does it concern me? Really?
Humour this bit of reasoning:
We live in a house with a pre-paid electricity meter. The "electricity" is bought in advance and paid for in full.
During the news (on good ol SABC 2) we get warnings that the supply is under severe strain and that we need to switch off this and that.
For me it is the same as buying a bottle or 2 of Coke or whatever. I buy the bottle, its paid for in full. And as I open it to pour myself a refreshing glass a message comes over the radio that the national Coke supply is under severe strain and that I need to put the cap back on my bottle and put it away.
Its my damn colddrink that I paid for in full and which I can do with as I please. I was given the option of buying it. Same with the electricity.
To add to the frustration - if you take a drive through the big cities in Gauteng and Mpuma please do notice how many office buildings lights (and who knows what else like PCs, air-cons and a myriad of other electric devices) are on during the night with no office workers using it. And us small end-consumers must pull the plug? Come on...
In our house we do our best to use electricity in a concious manner.
Eksdom should start investigating illegal connections before they spend money on silly TV messages. They should also send direct warnings to large companies and corporations that blatantly waste energy by leaving whole office/factory blocks powered up during the night.
