This last week I did a swap with someone for a (401) plinth and got some Funk in return. What started as a 'setup and get some music playing' job turned into an itchy audiophile scratching a 401 itch. The 401 needs a plinth and I can cut and glue wood. I was a little confused though as after setting up the Funk Firms Funk turntable (for the bloke) I thought the sound (in an unknown room, with an unknown amplifier and as yet unknown to me speakers) was great! My immediate impression was of an above average turntable.

Deal done. Table returns to my house. Arms are swapped (bloke keeps his Funk FXR arm for 401 - I get a NAD/Rega RB250). Cartridge is hung and aligned. Speed is set with the help of agent Croak.

What a turntable  :groovy: I had my reservations based on personal prejudice (if you don't hurt your back carrying it in then it cannot be all that good). But. Plug the table in and turn up the volume  :2thumbs:

Great balanced bass. Superb midrange and an excellent detailed top end. Oodles of nuance and very little 'smudge'. Super stuff!

I like trying new turntables. This one definitely passes the grade. Now comes the difficult choices. To keep or to sell  :walled: Unfortunately you can only listen to one table at a time  :sulky:
