Well, brainy bunch in the Cape Hmmm ... Perhaps a couple but bunch, I think not! You have to give to state controlled online newspapers for the manner in which they have given headline after headline about all the wonderfully gifted achievers in this years group of matriculants. There is a big 'but' in there because as I read it the failure rate this year is much higher than before, which ultimately reflects upon the department of Education! Dear Angie is seen posing with numerous successful matriculants at a function she hosted (to crown her success no doubt), but what about those that did not have text books, or the many that failed. It matters not what the few bright learners can do for Angie's ego, but rather what Angie can do for all learners! I am rather annoyed at how the hype is all about the few, when in actual fact we should be asking about the many. Every year will produce students who excel, but when the failure rate goes up, you can know for certain that the Dept of Ed is failing on the whole, no excuses... Or are we expected to believe that somehow teens all over the country got 'stupider'!
