So I wake @ 03:00 this morning with a very uneasy feeling and check my phone which is out of character as I always silence it at bedtime.
What greets me is most shocking, Aunt and Uncle in their sixties, on my cousins side (Her husbands folks ) murdered in their home during a robbery. Stabbed to death.
My cousin and her husband were committed South African citizens and loved the land and the people.
Kevin started his adult life at Cedara College of Agriculture and went on to be a very successful sugar farmer in the Empangeni region.
He serviced the farms of Tongaat Huletts and cared for over a 1000 staff. He was the first to bring in the large Automated Cane Cutting Machines from Australia if I recall.
Jody, his wife, serviced the local African community's needs with regards to nutrition and gave of her time as a school teacher in Empangeni.
They left for New Zealand a few years ago encouraged by the folks as they had had one too many bad experiences on the farm and had started to fear for their lives.
Kevin sold out what he could and started from scratch in New Zealand working for a local Dairy Farmer milking the cows.
A few years later he owns his own cattle and has built a new life for his family.
He is devastated beyond words at the loss of his parents and feels incredibly bad that they were unable to leave to live in New Zealand with him and his wife.
I am sickened by the act's of vulgarity these so called Human Beings display to these, helpless old people. Take their possessions by all means, but why feel the need to put a blade in a 60 year old couple and twist it till they are dead!!! Burn in hell you bastards.
I am making ready for my kids to get the hell out of dodge. I married a Zambian woman who grew up in Zimbabwe and she, speaking from past experience says the writing is on the wall.
There will be no correcting the course of this ship we find ourselves in.
Too late for my wife and I but my Sons will see they get every opportunity due to them, it just wont be in South Africa.
Sorry for the rant but I had to get this off my chest.
