Hi

I've been using my Leak Troughline tuner for years with superb results. I don't have a multiplex decoder so listen in mono. All these years, I have been using a simple piece of single strand ripcord flex, which was attached to one of the two antenna posts at the back of the tuner.

This wire was about 2 or three metres long and was simply looped over the window's burglar bars, going about 1.5m up and another 1.5m to the left, like an inverted "L".

I did quite a lot of re-organising today to find space for the Dynaco amp and decided to make a better and tidier antenna for the tuner.

My friend Brian L. has the same tuner and has been confusing me with "Yagi's, dipoles and wotnot" so I tried to make a homebrew Yagi.

I understand this arrangement looks like a "T" so I took a single insulated strand from a ribbon cable and made a tidy job with some self-adhesive wire ties.

So my new antenna is considerable longer and going the width of the window (1.65m) and the two strands coming down in the centre of the "T".

The tuner has two binding posts for the antenna and also has an earth post between the two. Inbetween the two antenna posts, is the legend "300 Ohms".

I then called my friend and he said it wasn't necessary to fit a 300 ohm resistance between the two antenna posts.

So I attached the two ends of my "T" Yagi and to my surprise, the Leak's "magic eye" went all out of focus and not sharply defined as before.

I then disconnected one of the new antenna's wires and re-connected it to a single antenna post and all was OK, as before, with the "magic eye" functioning again.

What am I doing wrong here? Do I still need to connect a 300 ohm resistor between the two antenna posts?
