I've got a few good solder sucker things and find them mostly OK'ish. I also sometimes use desoldering braid.
For the past few days, I have been re-capping a little 10X10cm pcb from a National Panasonic R-100B radio which is densely populated with a gazillion parts and about 15 capacitors requiring replacement. Every single one of these capacitors has their leads bent over and then soldered making removal an absolute nightmare.
While working on this board, I've been thinking about better desoldering apparatus and looked it the Magnum products (I've got their soldering stations and some very fine rechargeable irons).
It appears their very impressive-looking desoldering station is combined with a soldering station as well which would make this equipment probably quite expensive.
I also looked briefly at some other brands and saw some handheld devices at around US$450 and upwards.
Any ideas here or alternatives?
