Apple TV2 or 3 as a music streamer

I?m looking for an easy streamer for music. Something that will connect to my preamp via optical or USB (which I take both optical and USB will do an equivalent job unless I?m wrong). I use iPhone and iPad and would like to ?cast? from my idevice onto a streamer that will not affect the integrity of the music. Can the Apple TV 2 and 3 do that?
