Are Onkyo receivers unreliable?

I have seen quite a few threads here and on other forums where people have issues with Onkyo recievers. Either while doing firmware upgrades, general firmware flaws, not powering up etc etc. Most seem to be of a technical nature rather than component failure.

Why is this, should I stay away from Onkyo? Looking at buying a ht receiver soon.
