The problem with auto boxes is that are very complex devices and differing road conditions , gears and modes would cause multiple hydraulic circuits to be engaged , if just one of the springs or check balls is left out or placed in the wrong position in the valve body , the gearbox mulfunctions. Even specialist gearbox repair houses are less than qualified for complex work , basically they can only deal with certain common conditions. This is true for the motor trade in general , often complex jobs are tackled and the mechanic cant fix it , then the hours rack up - for which the customer wont pay and eventually its easier to wash your hands off it and just hand it back to the customer - sad but true. would you pay for instance , R4000 for tracing an intermittent fault , which could EASILY take 10 hours in a car with a million circuits and gizmos (at R400 an hour)
