I'm still using my Victa Aussie-made mower I bought 35 years ago and it has mostly been a good machine.
Yesterday, I wanted to cut the lawns and the thing wouldn't start - even after applying all the tricks I got to know over the years.
Later, I removed the plastic carburettor and noticed a few hairline cracks and a chip out of the main carb body.
I made some repairs but thought I'd better start looking around for either a secondhand carburettor or perhaps new so I made a few calls to lawnmower places, even though I got the mower going eventually.
None of the stores had anything except one place in the northern suburbs.
They offered a secondhand item, sans internal parts, just the body - for an eyewatering R1'500...
Like bloody hell.
