There is unfortunately a wide variety of options when it comes to getting digital audio from a computer
There are Windows computers, with OS ranging from XP right through to Windows 10, build 1903
Then we have USB 2.0, USB 3.0
Audio drivers include ASIO and WASAPI
Some computers (Dell laptops are such) also have Optical SPDIF
Then we have Apple Mac. This will include Air, Pro, Mac Mini and the iMac
Older Macbooks come with USB 2.0, newer ones USB 3.0 and still newer ones USB C, Firewire Audio
Some older ones also had Optical audio
Again, there are ASIO drivers
Every year Apple upgrade the OS. In the past, there have been disasters where a new OS no longer supports an audio device and there is a long delay until a fix is produced
Most Macs don't seem to need drivers for audio devices, where Windows is almost obligatory
Still further down the line and very popular with those who use it, are the various flavours of Linux
I'd like to find out from our well-trained audio listeners if they have an opinion on what in a computer, whether it is the processor, amount of memory, the connector or even the software that makes a meaningful difference
Certainly, Audirvana is touted as offering superior reproduction compared with other software packages
What else?
