Hi, I'm hoping that someone could give me some tips as to what might be the problem: I took a DVD player around to a neighbour and hooked it up via HDMI to his 5 year old Samsung smart TV - regrettably I don't know the model number and neither does he - the screen is attached to the wall. Well, the video signal works fine but there is no sound. We exchanged the HDMI cable, to no avail.
What makes this problem strange is that he has DSTV hooked up to this TV and sound and vision work fine, on both HDMI inputs. So we hooked the DVD up to a newer Samsung set in another room and sound and video both worked fine on that set.
I'm thinking it might be a setting problem on the TV but why then does the DSTV signal work OK?. I've set the audio output on the DVD to PCM and since it works fine on his new TV, I'm assuming the DVD is not the problem.
Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
