I used to run a Rotel RB1080 with my HT setup, consisting of Marantz SR6003, Marantz DV6001, Sony S350, B&W683, HTM61 , B&W sub and surrounds.
This setup is used 90% for watching movies and often music DVD's and Blu-rays, but never CD's. I recently sold the Rotel, and to be honest, I like the sound more now, than when the Rotel was used to power the 683's.
The sound quality of the system never could come close to my stereo setup, which consists of mostly secondhand equipment, but cost me a fraction of what the HT system cost.
Point is, in my opinion, if you have a HT system, rather than buying a power amp for the main speakers, rather invest the funds in a decent stereo setup.
Sales people will tell you of all the benefits of using a extra power amp with the AVR, but imho, it never improves the quality, only the volume (a little).
