Confirmed... no AVR AMP matches a dedicated power amp... and the wattage and so called "hig current" is bull :cr@p:
My housemate decided to bench/evaluate few amps.....
The contender: Infinity Kappa 9.2 - rated 6 Ohm, little bit of a "difficult" member but NOT an Apogee, Kingdom or Magneplanar...or Sonus faber extrema, B&W 802/800
STEREO only
3 Monster Amps:
Pioneer VSX-AX4ASi-S - 180W into 6 Ohm
Yamaha Z9 - 170W into 8 Ohm (mmm 1200VA transformer)
Onkyo's monster NR5009 - 220W into 6 Ohm
They ALL went into protection! And NO it wasnt ear splitting volumes. Only a 8x6m room.
I have to admit I am REALLY disappointed.
The Rotel RB-991 @ 200W/8Ohm never did.
So I think they all LIE.... pity because they make amazing amps (on paper). Lost a little bit of my respect for these "power houses".
Guess what Ill have to put in "WANTED" soon
