So I'm looking to upgrade my receiver, partly for the upcoming Ultra HD standard, partly for some of the newer convenience features and partly for Audyssey XT32.

So I'm running a 5.2 system and have no desire to add any more speakers to the mix in my current living room space. I've got KEF LS50s up front and KEF E301s at the rear with 2x Velodyne SPL 1000 Ultras taking on the low end. When seated I prefer listening to music with my subs engaged, if moving around the house I prefer the speakers alone.

So I've been umming and ahhing between the new Denon X4200 and X6200 (just for the extra grunt) but this week it occurs to me perhaps I should go with the X4200 and add external amplification. Looking at what I could reasonably manage, I came across the Emotiva XPA-5 and the Rotel RMB-1555.

Is this overkill for my system, do you thing the difference will be appreciable, Rotel vs Emotiva, what are the possible complications that can arise from using external amplification? I'm just toying with the idea, but opinions would be appreciated. A demo's not possible as both amps are only available through online order.
