alphabet said:Sorry, but I am struggling to follow you on this answer. The majority of AVRs are in fact class AB(including HKs).
it seems is still too much of a dolt to be giving advice.
but i don't think its entirely my fault. after speaking to many a shop assistant, they all told me that AVR's usually only come in class D. and one gave me HK as an example of those that don't (hence me stating AB). but ultimately its my own fault for not doing enough research on what most AVR topologies are.
another reason for assuming something like this was seeing slimline samsungs and logiteks and sinoteks that claim 200W rms and not pmpo. What are these? AB or D? from what little i understand for the AB and A you'd need bigger p/supplies so it wouldnt be a slimline product? i think i assumed that class D was a cheaper and greener path and was what most AVRs were adopting, even though the circuit may be more complex than a class a or a pushpull or whatever.
another thing that confused me is that if the topology is the same as a stereo. and there's a source direct mode in the avr, then why the debate(musicality for stereo vs avr) and why the price difference.... take marantz for instance. im seriously interested in their stereo amplifiers. looking at pm7004,8004 and even the ki pearl lite. the max price would be about 15oddK... pretty much all you getting is the HDAM topology which to my understanding is and AB variant. Infact an opamp model built discreetly. but im sure i can get an SR?00? for about 10K offering a higher power, more channels and more electronics..... now is the only difference in the preamp. (im sure both have a source direct mode). after 5 mins of googling i cant tell what topology is used in the marantz entry level AVR's, for that matter any avr... please tell me where you can find info like this.... but from LAV and alphabet im led to believe its AB, probably the HDAM configuration.
so please put me out of my misery and explain what the physical difference between a stereo amp and an AVR in stereomode is if they have the same topology and the digital/preamp is bypassed?... i always thought it was a topology thing.
perhaps this belongs in another thread...sorry
