hi all, heres another relatively feeble question, so dont laugh.

ive noticed that the frequency responces of vintage amplifiers are not as wide as their modern AV counterparts. for example, i see low end frequencies of about 200 Hz etc. and not 20 Hz like in the AV stuff.

granted, the line level signal from the source should have these frequencies, and all it needs is amplification.

if we consider a preamplifier or a preamp stage of an integrated amplifier, with poor low end frequency responce (200 Hz), what happens to the lower frequencies in the line level signal when its fed to this preamplifier?

are they just not amplified, and remain at line level, or is 200 Hz the low end cut off frequency of the filters in the preamplifier. (is it a propper low pass filter with no lower limit or is it a band pass filter with a lower limit)... my guess is that its a wide band pass filter with variable gain at certain frequecies. the lowest being about 200Hz in my case.

i ask this because im thinking of adding a powered subwoofer to my vintage for added bass. i want to connect it to the "preamp out" of my integrated amplifier. so will i experience the lower end range of frequencies from the line signal thats first fed through the pre amplifier into the powered sub?

AV amps are too expensive and are in my opinion rather ugly, unless they are really expensive.
