I have spent some time finding the best multimeter probes for working on valve amps and valve radios, particularly as some radios are very busy inside and it's difficult to get at certain points. Ordinary probes, crocodile clip probes and those little IC clips (homemade probes) all have their pros and cons, but none of them are satisfactory, particularly when poking around in 300VDC+.
Then I found these hook probes while buying stuff from Mantech:
They're easy to get in anywhere, keep your hands away from nasty electrons and don't detach at all. The best probes I've ever used for valve equipment. The only negative is it's a bit over R500 for both probes and leads, but they are really well made.
