Bi-amping... How does it work?

I've got 2 stereo amps, and speaker with duel binding posts. Ok, I get that I have to remove that gold plated bridge, but how do i get the signal to the second amp? Do i turn down the bass on the amp connected to the HF port, and the treble on the amp connected to the LF port?
What do i need to know when doing this?
