Bi-wiring explained please

Over the last 2 year of being involved with the forum I have seen the terminology "bi-wiring" thrown around every now and again.

I am now going to be getting a set of Jamo C605 Floorstanders (thanks to Warren at Fonets) at the end of August that can be bi-wired.

My RX-V567 receiver can be bi-wired but I want to know what is the point, advantages, etc of doing this bi-wiring?
