This is a interresing cable story (to me at least), but not directly audio related. In my line of work (telecoms), cables are extremely important. For instance, set the input impedance matching to 75ohm unbalanced for a 120 ohm balanced cable termination on a 2Mb/s digital line, and you have endless problems.......... In short, it just doesn't work The bit error rate becomes unusably high.
Now in digital radio systems carrying a 4 to 34 Mb/s bitstream the effect is even worse.
Okay, so last week I was giving training to a group of people on such radio systems, and they told me the IF cable between the modulator and the radio unit has broken, and they replaced 10m with twin flex . That is a 350Mhz analogue singnal with a digital signal modulated onto it (they didn't say what bit rate), with a 10m twinflex wire joined into a 75 ohm unbalanced radio cable ??? ...............and they say it worked :-\
