Calculating electricity usage

Probably a really basic question... but for some reason I can't recall.

If you have a prepaid meter, you buy electricity - say 500kw

Then.. my usage, and my question...

If a light is rated at 50w - then my understanding it uses 50w each hour? So 50/1000 = 0.05kw, and therefore, after one hour of usage my electricity will be 499.95kw?
