As I know very little about custom car audio, I have always dismissed the quoted ratings of car amplifiers as they are only driven with 12v and I think a max of 30A, but I am still curious to find out if the power ratings of car monoblocks can be compared directly with what we use in our domestic audio systems.
For instance I saw an advert of our "favorite" HiFi place yesterday of a Calibra Stealth Monoblock(Mosfet) amplifier with a claimed output of 450w RMS. Should a claim like this be taken with a pinch of salt or is it actually possible to get this level of output from a device using a 12v source?
As an afterthought, No I am not looking for a car audio upgrade, my son-in-law asked me if such an amplifier can be used to drive a decent passive sub(Home use) as it costs R1200 ;D
