End of July I'm hoping to do a little upgrade on my Figo's sound. I'm somewhat having wandering eyes ito cars so I hope a little upgrade will help me keep my ronds in my pocket rather than spending it on a new machine. :nutter: In these economic climes that's the last thing I should be doing....
Anyway, I've already gotten some JBL GTO 6" splits installed in front and have 2x JBL GTO 8" subwoofer drivers in the garage as well as a little Targa 4 channel amp - all 3000W of it.
The factory head unit isn't great ito anything so once I upgrade that I will install the sub(s). Originally I thought I'd get a h/u with pre-outs and run the front speakers off 2 of the amp's channels and bridge the other 2 for the sub. Now I'm thinking I might use both sub drivers and run the amp in full bridge mode. According to the specs that should give me about 120W / sub into 4 Ohm. Doesn't excite me much because I think those little 8" subs would need a lot of power. Not that I need loud, I keep the h/u on 8/20 and go up to 12/20 only when I'm really in the mood, so possibly not an issue.
Looks however is important - I don't want a headunit that looks like it is the only part of the car ready for outer space and beyond. I also don't like head-units that is very clearly after market - ie single din unit in a double din space.
So...this Alpine unit looks really nice aesthetically https://www.soundmatch.co.za/Products/Product/1664/alpine-cde-w235bt-2-din-bt-ipod-usb-mp3-cd-player and Alpine is supposed to be good, right? Will give me Bluetooth and USB connectivity as well.
But is there something out there I should be looking at rather? I see Alpine makes a big song and dance about being iPhone ready, but no word on Android, which is what I have. Perhaps someone knows if this is an issue ito functionality?
Thanks in advance chaps.
