I just bought a new corvette , new as in 1995 with 50k on the clock and in pristine condition. Im doing a few upgrades and have got some parts prices , which in SA terms are seriously cheap , even with airfreight shipping.
for EG , a full set of the best quality Hawk brake pads for front and rear is R800 , the stock GM ones are R500 for a FULL set. Disc rotors , stock , are R300 , the premium slotted and cross drilled ones I am getting are round R600 each , a headlamp motor (flip headlamps) is R320 and the repair kit for em (which is what I need) is R40. I also have a 1996 Camaro z/28 , a few months ago the radiator sprung a leak in one of the plastic side tanks, I was quoted R1200 to repair the plastic tank and R7000 to make a complete radiator in aluminium by the local guys .. the stock GM original one , alluminium core with improved plastic side tanks and trans oil cooler and all the correct fittings/bungs etc cost me R1080 landed here , airfreight , 3 days....
I compare thos prices to some of the parts my wifes Renault scenic cost me and im floored , I pulled an invoice for front rotors and pads for the scenic and it was around R7000 and that was 2 years ago!! , probably double that now.
